One mile of Schifferdecker Avenue in Joplin, Missouri, was widened from 2 lanes to 3 lanes with a future 5-lane corridor from 7thStreet to 20th Street. The work included design of new storm sewer system and drainage improvements in the Short Creek Watershed. Also installed were two new fully actuated eight phase signalized intersections located at Junge and Schifferdecker and at W. 20th and Schifferdecker.
The intersections were modified to accept the new 5-lane approach, full pedestrian access and the 20th Street intersection uses video detection. The signals at W. 7th (Route 66) and Schifferdecker have also been modified to accept a new 5 lane approach from two directions, full pedestrian access and an interconnect to the signals at the Wal-Mart Super Center.
