Carthage Levee & Stormwater PumpsIn 1993, flooding on the Spring River led to flooding behind the Carthage levee, subsequently overloading a sewage lift station. Raw sewage mixed with the floodwaters and backed up into the City of Carthage's industrial complex. The US Economic Development Agency funded improvements to the levee, a new sewage pumping station and improvements at the wastewater treatment plant.
TSE designed and installed improvements to approximately 3/4 mile of the Carthage levee along Spring River, added two 300hp, 40,000 gpm storm-water pumps and a 12' x 20' levee flood gate for the railroad crossing. In conjunction with this project, TSE also designed a new sanitary sewer lift station and approximately 1.5 miles of 20-inch pressure sewer main. |
Texas Avenue Drainage Improvements

CHALLENGE
Because of increased development between 32nd and 34th Streets near Texas Avenue, flooding and erosion issues around a shallow stream bed was becoming more of a concern. The City of Joplin needed an engineering solution to prevent future flooding events and mitigate erosion control in the developing area.
SOLUTION
TSE was selected to design storm water drainage improvements to approximately 3800’ of stream bed which is a tributary of Silver Creek. Jerald Norton, P.E., designed a solution to reduce erosion and flooding for both residential and commercial development.
SPECIAL FEATURES
• Drainage channel widening
• Regrading and permanent turf reinforcement mat for approximately 3800 lineal feet of open channel
• Awaiting construction by the City of Joplin
